Frank Leslie Metheny, 60, of New Freeport, Pa., formerly of Masontown, W.Va,, passed away Friday, Feb. 21, 2020, at his home.
Frank was born in Morgantown, on June 22, 1959, a son of the late Howard Franklin Metheny and Betty Lee (Menear) Metheny.
He graduated from Masontown Valley High School in 1977. He began working for Consol Coal Co. at the Blacksville #2 Mine in 1978 as a mechanic and electrician until his retirement in 2014. He enjoyed five wonderful years of retirement, traveling, gardening, hunting and entertaining his grandchildren with tractor and John Deere Gator rides.
Frank was blessed with an incredible work ethic. His athletic talent and competitive spirit was passed on through many years of coaching basketball. His love of farming was fostered as a teen by working for Joe and Becky Montgomery at the Sunnyhill Dairy Farm. In 1982, he and his wife bought a 100-acre Greene County farm which proved to be too small for his ambitions. In 1987 they upgraded to a 250-acre farm and leased acreage to run 75 head of beef cattle.
Frank is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 41 years, Deborah (Krynicki) Metheny, three daughters; Leslie Roby and husband Brad, of Core, Jackie Bellanca and husband Branden, of Hilliard, OH, and Stephanie Metheny and fiancée, Glen Mehlrose of Wantagh, NY; five grandchildren, Noah, Teagan and Elon Robey and Jane and Dana Bellanca; one sister, Teresa Reynolds and husband Lonnie, of Terra Alta; three brothers, Edward Metheny and wife Debbie, of Old Fields, W.Va., Jeff Metheny and wife Cindy, of Bethel Park, Pa., and John Metheny and wife Connie, of Weston, W.Va., mother and father in law, George and Louise Krynicki, of Masontown, W.Va., and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant twins and a son, Kent Metheny.
