Though drivers surely noticed the cones and equipment set up Tuesday along Monongahela Boulevard, no roadwork will be done in the area until at least next week, according to a release by the West Virginia Division of Highways.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, the lane closure planned to start [Tuesday] on Monongahela Boulevard/U.S. 19 Lighting Project has been cancelled,” the statement said. “At this time, the lane closure is expected to start sometime the week of Feb. 24. Once those dates and times are determined, there will be further information announced.”
The closure will allow DOH crews to install new roadway lighting along the boulevard, between 8th Street and Patteson Drive. The majority of the work is anticipated to happen behind the shoulder closures, according to the DOH, though there is the chance for an occasional right lane closure.
“Motorists should expect delays and advised to plan ahead to allow for additional time during their commute,” the adivosry states. “Inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances could change the project schedule.”
