Local Christian hip hop artist Lamar Riddick was scrolling through his social media when he was told he was in the running for an award from an organization known as the EDDY Awards — something that is still a mystery to him.
“I just happened to find out through another artist on Instagram that I was nominated. At first, I thought it was fake … but I think because of social media, things travel faster than email,” Riddick said. “I’m still curious to find out how I got nominated.”
The EDDY Awards, an awards show for independent artists, will air on the IMPACT Network. It is set for Thursday-Saturday.
“I always believe in just keeping my head down until there’s a reason to look up, and this was a reason to look up,” Riddick said. “It’s still kind of unbelievable. Even though it’s a smaller showcase, it’s just the fact that someone took the time to recognize and see value in you enough to consider me for something like this.”
Riddick will take a trip down to Jacksonville for the award show. On the way, he also has some performances booked, including at Edward Waters College, which is Florida’s oldest independent institution for African Americans.
Riddick said the traveling is something he will be vlogging for his followers and subscribers on all of his social media platforms.
In addition to Riddick’s nomination, he has been releasing new music and starting a video series on his YouTube channel, where he talks about the book of Romans in the Bible. Romans being Riddick’s favorite book, he said it was always something that resonated with him.
“I’ll be reading through the book of Romans … to be pouring into my fanbase and give them some spiritual guidance,” he said.
