Neva Grace Knight, 5, born Aug. 19, 2014, of Kingwood, went home to be with our Lord on Feb. 14, 2020, after a courageous 2-year battle with Wilms Tumor — a form of childhood cancer.
“Neva the Diva,” as she was known to her close family and friends, lit up a room with her sass and outgoing personality. Neva loved princesses. Her favorite was Elsa, but on any given day she would tell you she liked Ariel and Jasmine, too. When asked where she would like to go on vacation, Neva didn’t pick Disney World, a place she also loved. She picked “camp” … aka her family’s camp at Big Bear Lake. At camp, Neva enjoyed golf cart rides, doing “stunts” on her scooter, painting rocks to hide, finding painted rocks and swimming at the water park. Neva was known to belt out Frozen songs and she loved to dance. Neva also enjoyed spending time and playing with her cousins Tori, Brooke, Bella and friend G.
Neva was an amazing big sister to her baby brother Jase and great little sister to her big sister Layla. Jase was her own little baby doll, pushing him around in her doll stroller. Neva and Layla loved playing with makeup and taking Snapchat pictures together. All three have an incredible bond and love each other deeply.
Neva’s faith was important to her. In her Sunday School class, she was always sure to pray for sick kids to be healed. Neva knows Jesus and she loves Jesus.
One thing is clear, cancer didn’t change Neva. Neva remained the beautiful, uplifting, full of life little girl she had always been. Even on her bad days, she would manage a smile. Her journey with cancer inspired and uplifted so many. Her courage was unparalleled. She had many followers and supporters, gaining a “Neva the Diva Fan Club” wherever she went.
Neva wanted to be a pediatric nurse. Her WVU PEDS team and her 6 South East medical crew being the inspiration behind her career choice. While Neva loved her entire WVU Medicine Family, Neva adored her Nate.
Whitney and DJ would like to say a thank you for all the love and support they received from special family friends Michael and Barbie Argabrite, their church family, friends and the Team Neva crew. Your support has meant the world to the Knight family.
Whitney and DJ would also like to acknowledge the care Neva received from Dr. Tomboc, Dr. Paul, her 6 South East family, the WVU Infusion Center team and the UPMC NICU floor. Thank you for the excellent medical care Neva received during her journey and for just loving our girl. Each of you will always have a special place in our hearts and family.
