Drivers should take caution this morning, as the combination of falling temperatures and precipitation mean “there may be some slick spots on the road for rush hour,” said Paul Walker, AccuWeather senior meteorologist.
On Thursday afternoon, he said the day’s rain was likely to turn to snow, as temperatures dipped from the 40s to a low of about 20 overnight.
“It’s dramatically colder,” he said. “You’re likely to see a coating, maybe a couple of inches of snow.”
That’s for Morgantown. Preston County could see as much as 2-4 inches.
The cold will stick around today, with a high of 27 and a low of 14 tonight.
However, Walker said the chilly temperatures are anticipated to be on the way out by Saturday, warming back up to the 40s.
“There will be intervals of clouds and sunshine,” he said.
Sunday, expect the temperature to stay in the 40s, with more clouds and possibly rain or snow showers in spots in the afternoon.
Elsewhere in the state, the Associated Press reported that rains Thursday “caused part of a hillside to collapse in southern West Virginia and prompted a flood warning along the Ohio River.”
Weather-related school closings or delays occurred in at least 15 of the state’s 55 counties and highway officials said high water forced road closings in multiple counties Thursday.
