TERRA ALTA — The smile says it all.
On Thursday, 7-year-old Wyatt Dewitt was named an honorary member of the East Preston Eagles basketball team.
He sat with the team and participated in a special tip off to start the game.
He also got his own team jersey.
Wyatt, a first grader, is being homeschooled by his parents, Annette and Keith Parker, but formerly attended the school.
He suffers from spina bifida, a birth defect that confines him to a wheelchair.
“He’s definitely a pillar of the school and the community,” Terra Alta/East Preston Principal Justin Hough said. “His smile really lights up the room. He makes everyone want to be a better person.”
Landon Bolyard, 12, who helps to coach the youth league Wyatt participates in on Saturdays, came up with the idea to allow Wyatt to join the team.
“Wyatt loves the game of basketball,” said Leslie Bolyard, Landon’s mother.
