MORGANTOWN — PRT service between the Beechurst and Engineering platforms is suspended until further notice.
That’s according to WVU Spokesperson John Bolt, who also said PRT operations between Beechurst and Walnut and between Engineering, Towers and Health Sciences, will continue as normal.
A PRT car traveling alongside Monongahela Boulevard stuck a boulder that went through the protective fence separating the road and the PRT track during a rockslide on Monday.
Structural engineers are inspecting the PRT track for damage and the fencing has already been replaced, Bolt said on Tuesday.
When it’s safe to resume operations, a notification will be sent, Bolt said.
The damaged car, number 67, had its front cut off by the Morgantown Fire Department to extract a patient firefighters suspected had fractures, according to a MFD incident report.
Bolt said it’s not clear right now if the car can be repaired. If it can’t, the car will be used for scrap or replacement parts.
Bolt did not have a cost estimate on the damage caused by the incident.
