Eric Dean Smith, 61, of Morgantown, passed away Tuesday morning, Feb. 4, 2020, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 2, 1958, in New Martinsville, a son of Pauline Hope Smith, of Morgantown, and the late Ralph Lee Smith.
Eric is survived by his daughter, Elaina Smith, of Morgantown; a grandson, Marcus Smith, of Morgantown; his brothers, Bruce Smith and wife Denise, of Morgantown, and Phil Smith and his wife Sherrie, of Hawaii; and two nephews, Heston and Hayden.
Eric worked as a mechanic for the City of Morgantown where he retired with 30 years of service, and then went to work for the City of Granville in the same capacity. He enjoyed dirt track racing and NHRA drag races. A football fan, he cheered on his Green Bay Packers. Eric had a big heart and couldn’t say no to anyone who was in need. He was a “gentle giant” who would drop anything he was doing to help a friend.
At his request, Eric will be cremated and a memorial service to honor his life will be held at a later date to be announced.
