City to hold public hearing on CDBG annual action plan

The City of Morgantown will hold a public hearing at 11 a.m. Thursday in City Council Chambers at Morgantown City Hall.

The purpose of this public hearing is to gather information for the city’s Community Development Block Grant Annual Action Plan for fiscal year 2020, which must be submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for the CDBG Entitlement Funds. Additionally, the hearing will be used to solicit the views and comments of individuals and organizations concerning the housing, community and economic development, and fair housing needs in the city of Morgantown.

The City of Morgantown Development Services Department is required to prepare a One-Year Annual Action Plan to receive funds through the CDBG program. At least 70% of the CDBG funds must benefit low- and moderate-income people living in Morgantown.

Based on last year’s funding, the city anticipates being eligible for a CDBG entitlement grant of about $405,785 for fiscal year 2020. These funding levels are contingent on the final approval of the Federal Budget for fiscal year 2020. These funds can cover certain activities such as the acquisition of property, disposition costs, improvements to public facilities, demolition and environmental cleanup and rehabilitation of houses.

All interested residents are encouraged to attend this public hearing. They will be given the opportunity to present oral or written testimony concerning the needs of the city of Morgantown and the use of CDBG funds to address those needs over the next fiscal year.

Residents wishing to submit written comments may send those via mail to Chris Fletcher, director of development services, City of Morgantown, 389 Spruce St., Morgantown, WV 26505 or via phone at 304-284-7431.
