Clay-Battelle nets win 14, downs Buffalo 73-63

BUFFALO, W.Va. — The Clay-Battelle boys’ basketball team netted its 14th win of the season, defeating Buffalo 73-63 on the road.

The Cee-Bees were led by three players in double digits: Levi Carrico with 20 points and Mojo Chisler and Coltin Barr with 19 each.

Clay-Battelle (14-1) jumped ahead for the early lead, outscoring the Bison 24-11 in the first quarter before ending the half up 35-24. The second half saw Buffalo begin fighting back, but the Cee-Bees were there to hold them off for the win.

Although led by the trio, the Cee-Bees had plenty of opportunity at the line and took full advantage of them, hitting 30 of 32 (62.5%).

Buffalo (3-9) was paced by junior Alec Hanshaw with 22 points, while Ian Thompson and Jackson England had 14 and 10 points, respectively. Buffalo also had plenty of opportunities at the line, hitting 15 of 19 (78%).

Clay-Battelle returns to action on Tuesday at Paden City. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.

Preston 76, Liberty-Harrison 52

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Preston broke its .500 record with a stifling 76-52 win over Class AA’s Liberty-Harrison Friday night.

The Mountaineers and Knights went shot for shot in the first half as Preston entered the break up just six points, but a big third quarter saw PHS outscore the Mountaineers 23-8.

That boost would help the Knights skate to an easy win in the final eight minutes.

Preston (7-6) was led by Zach Shannon with 21 points, while Nick Smith (1`6), Austin Metheny (14) and Jaden Faulks (12) combined for 42 more.

Liberty-Harrison (2-11) was paced by Cole Holden with 27 points in the loss.

Preston returns to action on Monday, hitting the road to face No. 3 Morgantown. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.

Trinity 7s 36, St. Francis 32: Trinity was led by Matthew Stellato with 11 points. St. Francis was led by Chase Labritz with 14.
