Zack Shannon scores 22 in Preston’s comeback against Philip Barbour

KINGWOOD — Zack Shannon scored 22 points and Nick Smith added 20, as Preston High erased a 17-point halftime deficit to pull out an 80-72 victory against Philip Barbour on Wednesday.

“We couldn’t buy a basket in the whole first half. We must have shot close to 20% in the first half,” PHS head coach Paul Koontz said. “We played tight and it took us a while to get going. We got back into it with our offense.”

Preston (6-6) outscored the Colts, 27-10, in the third quarter.

“What I’m excited about is our players responded and met the challenge,” Koontz said. “Great job on defense holding them to 10 points. They were scoreless until the three-minute mark in the third quarter.”

Austin Metheny added 13 points and Jaden Fultz scored 10 for the Knights.

Philip Barbour (5-7) was led by Jesiah Mattick’s 24 points.

PHS travels to Liberty Harrison at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
