One person was killed Monday when a small, two-seat aircraft — identified as an Aeropro CZ model A220 — crashed in a wooded area near Valley Falls Road, in Marion County.
First responders from Marion and Taylor counties were called to the scene at 12:58 p.m., according to a press release from the West Virginia State Police.
The crashed plane was located just across the Taylor County line, still smoldering and burning in the woods.
According to the release, the aircraft originally departed from Indiana and was flying to Massachusetts. It landed to refuel at the North Central West Virginia Airport, in Bridgeport, just prior to the crash.
The victim is not being identified at this time pending further investigation and notification of the next of kin.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are responding to the crash site to conduct a formal investigation.
The West Virginia State Police, Taylor County Sheriff’s Department, White Hall Police, Winfield District Fire Department, Grafton Fire Department, Marion County Rescue Squad and Taylor County Rescue Squad all responded to the scene, according to the press release.
