Gas prices still falling; Morgantown sees low of $2.19 per gallon

Pump prices have fallen nationwide for the second straight week and local motorists have benefited.

GasBuddy.com, a phone app that tracks gas prices around the world, said the average price of a gallon of gasoline in Monongalia County on Monday was $2.315 a gallon, while the average in Preston County was $2.549 and $2.462 in Marion County, making north-central West Virginia the 88th least expensive place for gasoline.

Gas prices across the country dropped nearly four cents a gallon, according to GasBuddy which looked at 11 million price reports from nearly 151,150 gas stations across the country. The price of $2.50 a gallon nationwide is the lowest prices have been since March.

The average price in West Virginia was $2.49 a gallon.

Pump prices could continue to fall in the coming days. The cost of a barrel of West Texas Intermediate crude oil — which helps determine prices — was $52.93 a barrel, $6 lower than just a week ago, GasBuddy said.

“For now my advice to motorists is don’t be in a rush to fill, nearly every station nationwide will be cutting their prices in the days ahead,” Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy, said in a release. “But shop around if you do need to fill up and patronize the stations with the lowest prices.”

DeHaan said oil prices dropped on fears the coronavirus now centered mostly in China could spread and greatly reduce travel and the demand for petroleum.

The lowest pump price in Morgantown was $2.19 a gallon, which could be found at local Sheetz stores. It was also $2.19 a gallon at Sam’s Club in Granville. In Presto

County the cheapest gas was at the Circle K convenience store on West Main Street in Kingwood, where the price of a gallon of regular was $2.49 a gallon. And in Marion County, the least expensive gas was $2.34 a gallon at the Sheetz at the corner of Fairmont Avenue and 10th Street.

In Pennsylvania, the average price was $2.715 a gallon, while in Maryland the average price was $2.435 a gallon, GasBuddy said.
