Robert ‘Bob’ Franklin Penzes, 83, of Granville, passed away at Mon General hospital on Jan. 26, 2020. Robert was born in Granville to the late Charles and Teressa Zenc Penzes.
Robert was a retired cook foreman for 25 years at the Kennedy Center. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He competed in archery competitions and was a member of the Westover Archery Club. He designed and crafted his own arrows and fishing lures and was very creative. He also loved to garden in his free time. He enlisted in the US Army and served honorably for six years. During his time in the service, he operated a five-ton as a part of the missile battalion. During his military downtime, he played the drums with the music group Western Rainbows, which was a part of the European Grand Ole Opry. After returning to the states, he formed the Stone Country Band and they played anywhere from local beer gardens, wedding receptions and many other types of events.
Bob designed the University High School flag. He was also a member of St Francis de Sales Catholic Parish.
He is survived by his two daughters, Theresa Obrad and husband Jim, and Suzanne Kiger and husband, Joe. Also, surviving are his grandchildren, who he dearly loved, Heather Dawn Obrad-Bartholomew and husband Logan, Harley Paige Obrad, Lillian Kiger, and Vivian Kiger; his granddogs; and several nieces and nephews.
Bob is preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Ellen Penzes; one sister Erma Penzes; and three brothers, Alex, Steve and Mike.
Friends and family will be received at the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 28, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. to conclude visitation. Visitation will continue at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Parish from 10 a.m. Wednesday until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Msgr. Anthony Cincinnati, S.T.D. as celebrant. Bob will be laid to rest at East Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors conducted by Westover VFW Post 9916 and WVANG, Camp Dawson.
