KINGWOOD — For more than two years, Preston County Public Service District 1 (PSD 1) has struggled with replacement water sources while awaiting completion of a dam.
The dam, at the J.W. Ruby Research Farms, was the district’s primary water source. When the owners said the 50-year-old structure needed to be replaced, the district scrambled to find a temporary water source.
Since then, it has struggled with water quality and quantity.
PSD 1 Water Operator Danny Layton has made weekly reports to the Preston County Commission on the contractor’s progress.
Completion, which is more than a year behind, is weather dependent. Contractors are working and the district’s most recent estimate for completion was mid-February. Special equipment was brought in to dry soil that has to be compacted at the dam.
PSD 1 encourages customers to call its offices if they have water quality problems. The district also prepared a list of the questions it most commonly receives and its answers.
