Sheetz is expected to begin construction shortly on a 4,906-square-foot store at 1867 Mileground Road, the Altoona, Pa.-based convenience store confirmed.
Plans are to have the store open this summer.
As part of those plans, Eloquence Antiques & Artisans, a consignment, gift store and art gallery now located at the site, will relocate to the newer section of Mountaineer Mall at the former site of Rex TV and Appliance, according to a post on its Facebook page.
The last day for Eloquence Antiques at its Mileground Road location is Feb. 2. The store will reopen in the Mountaineer Mall on Feb. 15.
Nick Ruffner, a Sheetz spokesman, said plans are to build a new Sheetz on the site. The two-story building on the site now will be demolished.
In addition to being nearly 5,000 square feet, the new Mileground Sheetz will have indoor and outdoor patron seating. It will also have the capability to fuel 12 vehicles at one time.
“We are projecting construction to start with a projected opening of summer 2020,” Ruffner said. “This is a new store for Sheetz and is not replacing any existing store in the Morgantown area.”
Sheetz closed its University Place location in Sunnyside in the fall after announcing in September it was not renewing its lease on the first floor of the building. At 15,000 square feet, the store was bigger than most Sheetz standalone locations. It also did not offer fuel.
When the Mileground Road Sheetz opens later this year, Sheetz will have seven locations in the Greater Morgantown area.
Overall, privately held Sheetz has more than 500 stores in six states: West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, Virginia and North Carolina.
