The trees have been cleared and installation of the Morgantown Utility Board’s 30-inch raw water pipeline is expected to begin next week in White Park.
Work on the water line resumed Jan. 6, following a monthslong break, during which MUB, the city of Morgantown and community members debated whether the line should run through the park and, if so, where.
The gravity-fed water line will connect the 370 million gallon Flegal Dam and Reservoir being constructed along Cobun Creek Road with MUB’s treatment facility off Don Knotts Boulevard.
MUB spokesman Chris Dale said crews need to connect the White Park portion of the line to the 15,875 feet of pipeline already installed.
Dale went on to say that per the licensing agreement allowing MUB access to the park, all tree removal was monitored by an arborist.
A soil inspector from Triad Engineering is overseeing the removal of any contaminated soil — remnants of oil tanks that once stood on what is now park property.
Triad Engineering is also monitoring construction on behalf of the city, according to Dale.
The new reservoir and pipeline is a $50 million project.
