PREP ROUNDUP: Clay-Battelle girls’ basketball snaps 2 game skid, defeat Tygarts Valley 45-35

BLACKSVILLE, W.Va. — Clay-Battelle snapped its two game skid with a Friday night win over Tygarts Valley, 45-35.

Tygarts Valley got ahead early, taking an 11-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, but C-B turned the tables by outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 10-6 in the second quarter to lead 19-17 at the half.

The Cee-Bees (6-4), led by Liv Ammons, strung together 26 points in the second half to close the game.

Ammons ended the redemption game with a game-high 30 points, hitting three 3-pointers — the Cee-Bees only treys — and 11 of her 14 free throws.

Autumn Stewart tossed in seven more points to assist Ammons.

Abigail Cabaniss led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 points, while Claire Smith tossed in 10.

Clay-Battelle returns to action on Tuesday with a road game at Harman. The game is part of the West Virginia girls’ HIT tournament.

Morgantown 85, John Marshall 38

GLEN DALE, W.Va. — Morgantown extended its win streak with a swamping 85-38 win over Region I foe John Marshall Friday night.

Three Mohigans found double figures in the game — Carson Poffenberger (17 points), Alex Rudy (12), Mac McMillen (11) — which was effectively over at halftime as MHS led 50-15.

Morgantown outscored the Monarchs 35-23 in the second half to finally end it.

The Mohigans hit a total of 13 3-pointers, led by Rudy and McMillen with three each, while Antonio Rollo, Poffenberger and Brooks Gage each had two. Alec Poland tossed in the final trey.

Jacob Korngiver and Zak Babiczuk led the Monarchs with nine and eight points,
respectively.

Morgantown returns to action on Monday with an early tip off at 3:15 p.m.
