Here is a sampling of bills introduced Jan. 17. Local lead sponsors and co-sponsors, if any, are noted. Deer hunting bag limits and taking soda from SNAP recipients are among them.
SB 524, bad news for deer hunters. It would forbid the Natural Resources Commission from setting the bag limit for antlered deer at three or more and set the limit at two.
SB 526 would mean no soda for SNAP recipients. It would ask the U.S. Department of Agriculture for a SNAP program waiver for a pilot project to see if excluding sweetened beverages and energy drinks from SNAP raises recipients’ nutrition levels.
HB 4398, to require the state school board to require school U.S. history curricula to include “academic content regarding the original texts of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States and its amendments, with emphasis on the Bill of Rights, the Federalist Papers and the Constitution of West Virginia, and their original contexts.”
HB 4399, same as SB 212, Angel’s Law, to prohibit civil rights violations based on gender identity or sexual orientation.
