She was born April 15, 1937, in Los Angeles, daughter of the late Shirley and Manuel Glick. She grew up in Santa Monica, Calif., and received her degree from the University of California, Berkeley. In 1959, she married lawyer Carl Selinger. Together they lived in Cambridge, Mass.; Albany, N.Y.; Albuquerque, N.M.; Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y.; Honolulu; Birmingham, Mich.; and finally settled in Morgantown. In each of these cities, they made a loving home with sons Jonathan and Eric and enjoyed close relationships with many dear friends.

In the early stages of her career, she worked as an elementary school teacher and was especially devoted to teaching a love of books. Later, she moved into other forms of education, including teaching English as a second language, and educational broadcasting at public television station WNPB. She maintained her dedication to public service, and she served on several organizational boards including the Tree of Life Congregation, Advisory Board for the West Virginia University College of Education, WVU-Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Partnership Committee and Program Committee of the WV Humanities Council. She was also a member of the Women’s Giving Circle.

After Carl died in 2001, she remained in Morgantown. In 2010, she married microbiologist Nyles Charon. Together they built friendships throughout the academic and Jewish communities, and enjoyed travel and the performing arts. She also delighted in being a member of two book clubs.

She is survived by husband, Nyles; two sons and spouses, Jonathan and Robin Selinger, of Kent, Ohio, and Eric Selinger and Rosalie Murphy, of Skokie, Ill.; stepdaughter, Mollie Charon, of Portsmouth, N.H.; and sister, Judy Gellert, of Bellevue, Wash.; four grandchildren, Joseph, David, Nathan and Margaret; and several nieces and nephews.
