William Edward ‘Bill’ Keir, 80, of Morgantown, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020, at the J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. Bill was born on April 13, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pa., a son to John and Philamina Rafaella Keir.
Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War. He enlisted as a young man and served for more than 12 years. He was honorably discharged in 1968, having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Bill worked in restaurant management for many years in an around the Morgantown area until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mrs. Vickie Thomas Keir; two daughters, Christina Melendez, of Currituck, N.C.; Jodie Straughn and husband Troy, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two sons, William E. ‘Billy’ Keir and wife Charity, of Morgantown, and Scott Keir and wife Corrine, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren, Danielle Haley, Karmyn Davis, Cameron Haley, Hannah Melendez, Gage Wolfe, Jadon Melendez, Grace Melendez and Jacob Keir. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his two brothers, Jack and Frank Keir.
The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, and again at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, until time of services at 11 a.m. with his son-in-law the Rev. Ismael Melendez officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hills Cemetery.
