Alexander Doan’e Barnett, 25, of Fairmont, formerly of Morgantown, passed away on Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, at home in Fairmont.
He was born Nov. 2, 1994, in Morgantown, a son of Julia Dianne Barnett, of Fairmont, and Jon Nicholson, of Morgantown.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his two brothers, Danny Barnett and Jonny Nicholson and his companion Jennifer Lovett (who was more like Alex’s sister-in-law), all of Fairmont; his maternal grandmother, Mary Barnett Grosselin, of Morgantown; and his paternal grandparents, Marvin and Lillie Mae Nicholson, of Morgantown.
In keeping with his family tradition that he was very proud of, Alex worked as a coal miner. He loved being in the outdoors, and spending time with his family, who were the most important people in his life. He enjoyed his garage time with his cousins, Billy and Molly Dalton, and riding dirt bikes. He was very strong in his beliefs and performed many charitable acts for which he never wanted to be recognized.
Friends may join the family to honor Alex’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Westover/Morgantown, from 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, until 7:30 p.m., at which time a service of remembrance will be held for those in attendance.
Alex will be laid to rest with his family at the Pisgah Cemetery on Rt.73 near Morgantown on Saturday, Jan. 11, in a ceremony for the immediate family and invited guests only.
A celebration of Alex’s life will be held at the Winfield Community Building in Fairmont from 4-6 p.m. Feb. 1.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made directly to the funeral home to assist with his funeral expenses. You may donate by visiting the funeral home’s website at www.smithfcc.com. Click on Alexander’s memorial page, and then click “Donations.”
