Mon Health first in state to earn such program recognition
Mon Health Medical Center was nationally recognized by the American College of Cardiology as the first hospital in West Virginia to earn an Atrial Fibrillation with Electrophysiology Accreditation for its expertise and commitment to treating patients with AFib.
AFib is a heart arrhythmia characterized by an irregular, rapid heartbeat. Left untreated, the condition can increase a person’s risk of stroke and other life-threatening complications.
Facilities earning the accreditation must undergo a rigorous evaluation of the staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients with AFib. In addition to managing the condition, accredited entities must also offer full electrophysiology and surgical services.
“Mon Health Medical Center is the only nationally recognized accredited AFib program in the state,” said Robert Hull, Mon Health Medical Center’s director of electrophysiology. “Our mission is to provide each patient with individualized, comprehensive AFib care for life. This includes care at home, as an outpatient and care through our emergency departments and throughout our system hospitals.”
The Mon Health Heart & Vascular team of physicians and nurses emphasize modification of risk factors that greatly reduce progression of AFib and offer the highest quality cutting edge technologies to improve life with AFib. This includes catheter ablation for rhythm control and Watchman implantation for stroke prevention. If needed, advanced surgical options are available.
