University splits home tri match
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — University split its home tri match against Ripley and No. 3 Parkersburg Saturday, downing the Vikings 49-25 and falling to the Big Reds 41-30.
“We still had people out [with injury], but [the effort] wasn’t what we needed,” UHS coach Ken Maisel said. “Hopefully it will be a lesson learned. Ripley was a good match, they have a good team, but we needed to bring more against Parkersburg.”
Grant Oxley (106 pounds), Jace Stockett (126), Mason Pauley (132), Elijah Wellings-Osha (160) and Josh Sanders (220) all went undefeated in their respective duals.
University returns to action on Wednesday with another home tri, hosting regional opponents John Marshall and rival Morgantown. Whoever wins between UHS and JM will likely make the cut for the state dual meet in February.
