REEDSVILLE — The Preston Workshop honored employees, their families and supporters at its annual dinner, recently.
Now 42 years old, the workshop and its Hickory Ridge Farms generate $1.2 million in business for Preston County, Board of Directors President Tom McConnell said at the dinner.
Then we must be doing something right, joked Operations Manager John Hyre.
Part of what’s right is providing jobs for people, he noted.
Hickory Ridge Farm is operated by the Preston County Workshop, Inc. The 32.14 acre farm in Independence grows acorn, butternut, spaghetti and yellow squash; green beans; pumpkins; and tomatoes.
More than 40 people work on the farm in season. Hickory Ridge works with local farmers to grade, store, package and sell produce on the wholesale market.
The workshop also trains workers and helps them find employment in a variety of fields, including greenhouse work, crate and pallet fabrication, Fiberglass cutting and fabrication, lawn care, janitorial services and other areas.
The workshop is at 650 Jenmar Drive, Reedsville. For more information about products and services, go to pcsworkshop.com or call 304-864-6446.
