MORGANTOWN — Fire destroyed a two-story barn Thursday at 470 Hildebrand Lock and Dam Road.
River Road Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mickey Rinehart said he wasn’t aware of any injuries resulting from the blaze.
“It was pretty much on the ground by the time we got out here,” Rinehart said. “I think there was a delay on the call given it’s a remote area. It was older wood and there was some hay in there which made it go faster. Plus, there’s a little bit of a breeze. So it burned pretty fast.”
Rinehart said there wasn’t electricity in the barn and it wasn’t immediately clear what ignited the fire.
While the old barn and it’s contents were destroyed, Rinehart said he didn’t believe it to be a significant dollar loss per his conversation with the owner.
Along with River Road VFD, personnel responded from Westover and Granville. Mon EMS was also on the scene.
