It’s Dec. 21 — down to the wire in Christmas preparations. Many are finishing up last-minute projects at work, while rushing to the store to grab those last-minute gifts for teachers and the Secret Santa exchange.
Rushing through the door, you go right past a little tree where just a few paper angels are left hanging, not having the time to stop and grab one and not giving it another thought.
Those last few names hanging on that tree are what The Salvation Army calls “Forgotten Angels.” Even when angels do not get adopted, The Salvation Army makes sure no children who signed up for the Angel Tree go without.
“We do not want any child to go without on Christmas,” said Lt. Nicole Greenland, Corps commanding officer. “The older ones usually ask for boots and coats, so it really is basic essentials that they need. So, we collect donations for our ‘Forgotten Angels’ and a few volunteers go shopping to fulfill the Christmas wishes of these kids. We also accept donations of new toys and clothing that we can use for gifts,” she added.
