Marvin Shaffer

Marvin Lee Shaffer, 78, of Morgantown, passed away Friday Dec. 20, 2019, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born July 8, 1941, in Buckhannon, a son of the late Arthur and Hattie Perry Shaffer.

Marvin was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Italy as a medic during his service. After his honorable discharge from the service, Marvin worked at Morgantown Glass Factory, and later went to work for CONSOL as a coal miner before his retirement. Marvin was also a member of the UMWA.

In his spare time, he enjoyed daily morning visits to Hardees. Marvin was an avid WVU Mountaineer and Morgantown High School sports fan. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was known as a kind, generous, and fun loving man.
Marvin is survived by two daughters, Sandra Cripple and husband Jay, of Mandeville, La., Shani Utter and husband Ernie, of Grafton; and four grandchildren Samantha Utter, Megan Cripple, Alison Utter, and Sean Cripple.
Friends will be received at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home at 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, until the time of funeral service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Neil Leftwich officiating. Marvin will be laid to rest at East Oak Grove Cemetery on Thursday at 11 a.m.
