Boyd Hastings

Boyd Hastings received reward for his Christian faith as he passed away on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019, surrounded by his family. Boyd’s 94 years of life were certainly a celebration of family, loyalty, church and faith in Christ.

Boyd was a true Morgantown native, as he lived here all of his life with exception of his active duty service in World War II. Boyd was the son of Lynn and LaMarion Hastings and was born on June 26, 1925. Boyd began his Christian journey as a toddler and became a baptized member of Spruce Street Methodist Church in 1937, where he has remained a faithful member. After a short period of attendance at WVU, Boyd decided to enlist in the Army where he was eventually stationed in Hawaii. Upon his return from the service, Boyd returned to Morgantown and began working at First National Bank, where he worked for 40 years, retiring as the cashier and vice president.

Boyd met the love of his life, Mary, at a church picnic, where he claimed he was the Sunday school class secretary in order to get her address and phone number. Boyd and Mary married at Diamond Street Methodist Church, in Fairmont, on July 21, 1951. Boyd and Mary have 4 children, Emily (Tim) Keene, of Middletown, N.J.; Nancy (Jim) Karras, of Mt. Lebanon, Pa.; Kent (Libby) Hastings, of Westover; and Bill (Joanna), of Seneca, Pa. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Sammy Keene, Brendan (Kathy) Keene, Sakeina Keene, Dustin Keene, Rachael Karras, Betsy Karras, Kent Hastings, Alex (Erica) Hastings, Isaac (Cara) Hastings, Carter Hastings and Noah Hastings. Additionally, Boyd has five great-grandchildren. Surviving in addition are brother-in-law, Odell Miller, sister-in-law, Ruth Brooks, sister-in-law, Zelma (Ralph) Harms, sister-in-law, Pat Brooks and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Boyd was preceded in death by his siblings, Lynn, Grey, Mary Margaret Miller, Lyle and Boyd’s twin brother, Loyd.

Boyd enjoyed spending time with family, golfing with friends, traveling with Mary, watching WVU football and basketball, and bowling. Boyd was a long-time member of the Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, Shriners and Odd Fellows, where he served others with his many skills and talents.
