Morgantown High School plays annual winter orchestra show
The sonic sweep of violins and violas flooded the Metropolitan Theatre Tuesday as the rippling undercurrent of cellos and bass sent shivers skating across spectators’ skin.
The Morgantown High School orchestra delivered a festive concert fit for an evening of snow flurries.
Now, if only the Met served hot cocoa, it would have been a night to rival Hallmark.
Talented students gracefully sawed bows over strings, bringing favorite holiday melodies to life. Songs unknown to us by name but familiar in their sound mixed with seasonal classics, whose words the audience happily mouthed along to the tunes.
After the arias and concertos finished their moments in the spotlight, kids and adults alike wiggled with glee to the Polar Express Medley.
The jolly and uplifting “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” left concertgoers at the free event swaying to the music while the sweet croon of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” evoked clear, cold nights spent by the fire, bathed in the glow of the Christmas tree, with a warm drink in hand.
