Robert Johnson

Robert William Johnson, 83, of Fort Martin, passed away peacefully at his home on Dec. 15, 2019. Robert was the most loved “Grumpy Old Man” you would ever have hoped to meet. He was an ornery guy whose quick wit and sense of humor brought a smile to everyone’s face, and he soon made a stranger into a friend.

He was born Nov. 6, 1936, in Preston County and was married to Bonnie Turner Johnson for 61 years and was the proud father of Dawna L. Johnson, Dana L. Johnson-Robinson and Neal C. Johnson.

He was survived by his sister, Betty Johnson Kource; grandsons, Shawn (Haley) Johnson, William Johnson and Robert Johnson; great-grandchildren, Marley Smith Johnson and Layla L. Johnson.

Robert was preceded in death by parents, Ralph and Olive Johnson; brothers, James, Nelson and Richard; sister, Helen Yost; and granddaughter, Davina L. Robinson.

Robert was a truck driver for Sterling Faucet, Austin Powder and D&R Distributor. His most enjoyable job after retirement was delivering the Auto Expo.

He will be sadly missed on earth but joyfully greeted in heaven. Thanks to all who loved him and made his time on earth so wonderful and to Spruce Street UMC for all the delicious covered dish dinners and special events.

A time of sharing will occur at Spruce Street United Methodist Church from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18.

Robert’s last act of kindness occurred when he elected to be a CORE (Center of Organ Recovery & Education) participant by donating his body for research.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Spruce Street United Methodist Church would be gratefully appreciated.
