Volunteers help prepare for annual toy and food distribution
Volunteers spent time Tuesday sorting toys that area children will find under the tree come Christmas morning.
They were helping prepare for the 38th Annual Holiday Toy and Food Distribution, set for today and Thursday.
Only food will be distributed today, while food and toys will be given out Thursday — all at the West Virginia National Guard Morgantown Readiness Center.
The distribution — organized by the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties and Christian Help — aims to give families and individuals in need the chance for a better holiday.
The food comes from the Mon County Schools collection competition and
Mountaineer Food Bank, as well as other donations.
A partnership with Toys for Tots, as well as various collections around the area, provide toys for all age groups.
Also, the Monongalia County Humane Society will hand out food for dogs, cats, birds and fish both days.
Books-A-Million made it possible for every child to receive a book.
