A Morgantown man was arrested for allegedly selling drugs and having 20 firearms he wasn’t allowed to own.
Duane Allen Janes, 57, is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and prohibited person in possession of a firearm by the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department.
Two people went to the sheriff’s department Friday night to report Janes for using a firearm to commit domestic assault against them in their Ervins Lane home, according to a criminal complaint.
The two said Janes sold marijuana for a living and kept the drugs in a safe in the living room, the complaint said. They said they saw the drugs in the safe on Thursday night and that Janes sold drugs that night.
They told deputies Janes kept firearms in the safe with the drugs and in another safe in the house. He also kept guns in the bedroom next to the nightstand and in the nightstand, according to the complaint.
A search warrant was obtained based off the statements and multiple deputies executed it, the complaint said. Twenty firearms, ammo, $500 cash, about 3.5 ounces of marijuana, scales and packaging materials consistent with narcotic sales were seized in the search.
Janes was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on March 5, 1996, and is not allowed to own firearms, the complaint said.
He was arraigned in Monongalia County Magistrate Court by Magistrate Jim Nabors and is being held in North Central Regional Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
