MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Four Mountaineers led West Virginia to rally from two sets down and defeat the visiting Jayhawks 3-2 Saturday at the WVU Coliseum.
Audrey Adams led WVU (12-17) with 19 kills while Katelyn Evans, Kristina Jordan and Erin Slinde added 39 more to overpower Kansas (9-17) in a true redemption match. The last time the two teams squared off, Kansas came out with a 3-2 win in Lawrence, Kan.
The win marked the final regular season game for Evans, Slinde and Libero Gabrielle Cuckovich and came on senior day, nonetheless.
After the Jayhawks claimed the first two sets 25-20 and 25-19, the Mountaineers kicked into high gear to win the final three 25-22, 25-22 and 15-8. K.U. was paced by Morgan Christon with 19 kills.
The win was easily one of WVU’s best all-around performances in conference play, and snapped a six-game skid for WVU. The Mountaineers ended the match with a .209 hitting percentage (71 kills, 31 errors), 67 assists, 82 digs and six blocks. Lacey Zerwas accounted for the majority of defensive output, logging 54 assists and 16 digs.
