HOW THEY SCORED: West Virginia 20, TCU 17

First quarter

WVU TOUCHDOWN: Leddie Brown 3-yard pass from Jerret Doege (10:40), West Virginia leads, 7-0.

Following Tykee Smith’s interception of Max Duggan, WVU started its first drive of the game at the TCU 14.

Doege hit Sean Ryan for a first down before throwing incomplete. Brown was stopped for a 1-yard gain, before Doege found Brown on a swing pass. Brown was so wide open that he could have walked into the end zone.

TCU TOUCHDOWN: Sewo Olonilua 2-yard run (5:16), game is tied, 7-7.

The Horned Frogs answered back after a WVU punt with a 4-play, 75-yard drive.

The bulk of the drive came from Taye Barber’s 64-yard run on a jet sweep that set TCU up at the WVU 11.

Duggan ran for seven yards on the next play and then Olonilua finished off the drive.

Second quarter

TCU FIELD GOAL: Johnathan Song 30-yard kick (9:49), TCU leads, 10-7.

TCU took its first lead after a length 11-play, 54-yard drive.

Duggan hit two key completions, one to Jalen Reagor for 13 yards and another to Artayvious Lynn for 25 yards. The pass to Lynn came on second-and-16.

WVU FIELD GOAL: Evan Staley 40-yard kick (5:18), game is tied, 10-10.

The Mountaineers answered right back, as Brown continued to be a receiver out of the backfield. He caught two passes for 37 yards on the 10-play drive.

TCU’s defense stiffened once the Mountaineers drove to the Horned Frogs’ 26. Brown had two runs that went for two yards and Doege’s pass to Sam James only went for one yard to set up Staley’s kick.

Third quarter

TCU TOUCHDOWN: Reagor 70-yard return (10:32), TCU leads, 17-10.

West Virginia appeared initially to have good coverage on the play, but that all changed when Reagor made two guys miss and then ran around WVU punter Josh Growden near midfield.

It was the first punt return for a touchdown against the Mountaineers this season.

WVU FIELD GOAL: Evan Staley 24-yard kick (1:25), TCU leads, 17-13.

Sean Mahone intercepted Duggan to set WVU up at the 47.

Kennedy McKoy came up with the big play with a 36-yard run, but was then held to just two yards on his next two attempts.

Doege completed a pass to tight end Mike O’Laughlin for two yards, which set up Staley’s short kick.

Fourth quarter

WVU TOUCHDOWN: Isaiah Esdale 35-yard pass from Doege (2:10), West Virginia leads, 20-17.

This drive was aided by two crucial penalties against TCU.

The first came on a pass interference call on fourth-and-1 and then TCU defensive lineman Ross Blacklock was hit with a targeting call and ejected from the game.

After all of that, Doege lofted a long pass down the right sideline and Esdale hauled it in and kept control before nipping the pylon for the winning score.
