On the Go: New eatery in Kingwood

KINGWOOD — Sho Neal, owner of Kingwood’s newest eatery, On The Go, would like to see the Preston County economy grow.

On The Go will hold its grand-opening from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday. It will be open daily those hours, at 328 Tunnelton St., across from Craig Civic Center.

The restaurant opened last week and only serves customers through a drive-through, but plans are in the works to add seating inside.

“I am surprised we are getting a lot of older customers. They are coming for our made-from-scratch cookies and our milkshakes,” Neal said.

He said opening a new business has been an experience.

“It’s not easy to be a business owner,” he said. “I paid cash for the building to eliminate a high overhead. I don’t have to worry about high rent or a mortgage payment.”

On The Go is open for lunch and dinner. Neal said along with hot dogs, tacos, cookies, 15 flavors of milkshakes and a daily special, there will be other specials.

“Our last special, roasted chicken, rice and a corn muffin, sold out,” Neal said. “We are getting about 60 customers a day. People can call ahead to order.”

He plans to expand the business next spring to include outdoor dining.

“We’re not finished yet,” Neal said. “We’re just testing the water.”

He said another expansion he is considering is a laundromat.

“I want to try to continue buying property and expanding,” Neal said. “We have a good mayor and the police and sheriff’s department do an amazing job. I want to see the community grow.”

Mayor Jean Guillot said he believes having new businesses come to Kingwood is good for the economy.

He said they generate tax revenue and offer job opportunities.

“Instead of a vacant building, we have a thriving new business,” Guillot said. “I would like to see more diverse businesses come to Kingwood.”

On The Go accepts cash, credit and debit cards only. Call 304-685-0406 for information.
