MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The West Virginia swim and dive teams took multiple top placements during the second day of the first-ever home invitational, and Hunter Armstrong snapped a school record set in 2006.
The WVU men’s A team comprised of Angelo Russo, Fausto Huerta, David Dixon and Hunter Armstrong took first in the men’s 200-yard medley relay clocking 1:26.99 to edge William and Mary’s A group.
Individually, Dixon took 1st in the men’s 100 fly clocking 46.73. Armstrong added two more first-place finishes for WVU with wins in the 200 freestyle (1:35.80) — the record breaker — and the 100 backstroke (46.93). Huerta added the final first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 54.34.
No swimmer or team on the women’s side placed 1st, but there were plenty of top finishes.
The WVU A team took 3rd in the 200 medley relay behind Kenyon and Villanova. Individually, Morgan Bullock placed 2nd in the 100 fly, Giselle Gursoy took 2nd in the 200 free and Holly Darling finished 3rd in the 3-meter dive.
Rifle ends fall season at No. 11 Navy
ANNAPOLIS, Md. — No. 1 West Virginia rifle team’s fall season ends today on the road in Annapolis, Md., facing No. 11 Navy.
Undefeated WVU (6-0, 5-0 GARC) leads the nation with the best team average at 4712.33. Additionally, the Mountaineers hold a 28-8 all-time record over Navy (7-5, 2-2), last defeating the Midshipmen on Jan. 26.
West Virginia features two top-10 shooters, No. 5 Morgan Phillips (smallbore) and No. 2 Milica Babic (air rifle).
Volleyball swept by OU
NORMAN, Okla. — The West Virginia volleyball team’s road season ended Friday at Oklahoma with a 3-0 loss (21-25, 17-25, 22-25).
The win secures a regular-season sweep over WVU for Oklahoma.
West Virginia (11-16) returns to action on Tuesday with a 6 p.m. match against No. 3 Baylor (22-1).
