Sonja Propst

Sonja Propst, 84, died on Nov. 9, 2019. She was a resident of the Canyon community since 1960, purchasing a home overlooking Canyon with her former husband Richard William Propst, who died in 1975. Sonja was born on Dec. 17, 1934, in Idar-Oberstein, West Germany, to Heinrick and Erna Muller Geiss.

In addition to her parents she was proceeded in death by her grandson, Eric Benton Newlon, of Morgantown; two sisters, Loni Iacopelli, of Trenton, Mich., Ursula Shafer, of Eaton, Ohio; and a brother, Hans Geiss, of Odernheim, Germany.

She is survived by three daughters, Marlene Propst Newlon and her two children Alan Ayala, of Morgantown, and Pilar Ayala, of Long Beach, Calif., Stefanie Propst and her son Lucas Propst-Milik, of Fairmont, and his son Jordan Propst-Milik and Nancie Propst and her son Hunter Propst Cornwell, of Morgantown; and many nieces and nephews.

She also leaves her loving lap dog Petey, a black Chow mix.

Sonja was buried at the Mount Union Cemetery on Point Marion Road in Morgantown next to her former husband Richard William Propst.

A memorial service will be held at the Canyon Presbyterian Church on Canyon Road in Morgantown at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23. Officiating will be Joe Weaver of Mt. Morris, Pa., the nephew of Richard William Propst. A covered dish to be enjoyed after the service would be greatly appreciated. Please plan on staying so that we can reminisce with family and friends.
