Company in charge starting in December
Rockville, Md.- based Ail Hospitality LLC will officially take over ownership of Lakeview Golf Resort on Dec. 12, nearly three months after winning an online auction for the resort, the two golf courses, time shares and other amenities.
Ail had the successful bid of $2.25 million.
“It was an opportunity for us, not just a simple investment,” said Sameer Ailawadi, owner of Ail Hospitality.
Ailawadi, who owns eight hotel properties in Maryland, Pennsylvania and suburban Washington, D.C., said there are no plans to change the name of the property, which includes the 187-room hotel. He does, however, plan to keep the hotel open year-round. Employees will have to apply for their jobs because the hotel will be owned by a different legal entity.
“We are interviewing now,” he said.
Rooms and banquet facilities can be booked any time after the Dec. 12 closing.
“We heard about Lakeview through a broker,” Ailawadi said. “It’s two and a half hours from our corporate location.”
“We saw a property with a great legacy.”
The property itself will keep its traditional look, but the guest rooms will be spruced up with new bedding and carpets.
Ail may eventually align the hotel with a national company sometime during the first quarter of next year. Ail owns a Radisson in Rockville, Md.
Lakeview, founded in 1950 by Ward Christopher, sits on 412 acres and has 36,500-square feet of meeting space, a 40,000-square-foot fitness center, Legends Sports Bar & Grille and Fusion Restaurant, several swimming pools and direct access to other outdoor recreation options.
Golf legend Sam Snead won the West Virginia Open and set the Lakeview course record of 67 in 1958, according to Golfer’s Lifestyle Magazine.
Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer played an exhibition match in 1971 and tied the course record. Mountainview opened in 1985 for play. Brian Ault was the course architect.
