Granville man faces first-degree sexual abuse charge
A registered sex offender was arrested after he allegedly groped a 10-year-old girl.
Jonathan K. Hunt, 64, of Granville, is charged with first-degree sexual abuse.
The Westover Police Department was called to a Dunkard Avenue home on Thursday for the reported assault, according to a criminal complaint. He was arrested over the weekend.
A woman told officers her daughter was afraid because Hunt, who was visiting the home, grabbed her, hugged and touched her inappropriately, the complaint said. Hunt was not there when the officer arrived.
After his arrest, Hunt was taken to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained at the home where he allegedly groped the girl, the complaint said.
Hunt was arraigned in Monongalia County Magistrate Court and is being held in North Central Regional Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
Hunt was convicted of second-degree sexual abuse in July 1986 and first-degree sexual abuse in 1999, according to the West Virginia State Police.
His first victim was an adult female acquaintance, and he was sentenced to two years of probation. Hunt’s second victim was an adult female he did not know, and he served about two-and-a-half years in prison, according to the WVSP.
