Dorothy Ione Huggins Austin, age 93, of Morgantown, went home to be with her Eternal Father Friday afternoon, Nov. 15, 2019, at the home of her daughter Karen in Fairmont.
She was born March 12, 1926, in Morgantown, and was a daughter of the late James Paul and Virginia (Jackson) Huggins Rawson.
Dorothy was a member of the Sabraton Baptist Church. Until the age of 90, she worked as a cook Tiny Tikes Day Care in Morgantown. She loved being around little children, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her son, Ed Austin of Concord, N.C.; three daughters, Dotty Christopher and her husband Paul of Morgantown, Karen Ayersman and her husband Milton of Fairmont, and Sharon Sue Cress of Masontown; 13 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a very special sister-in-law, Thelma Huggins and a daughter-in-law, Joyce Austin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd E. Austin on Aug. 1, 1972; a son, James L. Austin; her brothers Howard, Jim, and an infant, Bobby; and a sister, Nancy Yoke.
Friends may join the family to honor Dorothy’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave, Westover / Morgantown from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, and again at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19, until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., officiated by Pastor Scott Whetzel. Following the funeral service, Dorothy will be laid to rest with her husband and family in the Halleck Cemetery.
