KINGWOOD — Preston County Clerk Linda Huggins continues the search for a place to store voting machines.
Huggins has been working with the Preston County Commission to find a secure place to rent to store the new machines, with space enough to also program them. The current space in a locked room in the commission meeting room is too small, she said previously.
At the most recent commission meeting, Huggins said she is still talking with the owner of the Kingwood Plaza about renting space there.
She also looked at the Herring Building on Price Street and the Dailey Building on Court Street, both in Kingwood, but the former has no parking and would require work, while the latter may be taken by another business, Huggins said.
Also at the meeting, county commissioners:
- Gave the McGrew Society, Cranberry Garden Club and Master Gardeners permission to plant a tree on the McGrew property to honor the late Mildred Lindley.
- Approved the hiring of Christopher MacQueen as a utility officer for the sheriff’s department, beginning today, at $12 per hour.
- Approved the hiring of Tina Roscoe in the county clerk’s office, effective Tuesday, at $12.85 per hour.
- Reappointed Cindy Shockey to the board of North Central West Virginia Community Action.
- Heard from the American Heritage Girls’ Wreaths Across America program.
