KINGWOOD — Two people were charged after a Masontown Police officer said he found them parked along the trail with drugs, guns and a child not dressed for the weather.
Hayle M. Collingwood, 24, of Reedsville, was charged with child neglect creating substantial risk of death or serious injury.
Alex Ryan Pyles, 25, of Tunnelton, was charged with possession of meth with intent to deliver, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and the child neglect charge.
Both were in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail Friday. Collingwood’s bond was set at $40,000 and Pyles’ at $50,000.
According to the criminal complaint by Masontown Police Chief M.E. Hoefler, on Wednesday he responded to a domestic dispute at the trail entrance with the intersection of West Depot Way and Sandbank Road.
He found Pyles standing at the driver’s side of a white U-Haul pickup with the door open. Pyles was “screaming” at Collingwood, who was holding a dirty child dressed in a T-shirt and shorts with feces on them. It was 26 degrees outside, Hoefler said.
Hoefler told Pyles to step away and instead he tried to get into the truck. Asked if he had weapons on him, Pyles said “no,” “yes” and “well maybe.” After a struggle, the chief handcuffed Pyles, who continued to resist until other officers arrived.
Inside the truck, they found about 30 loose syringes, a rifle, a loaded 9 mm handgun, a loaded .45-caliber pistol, other drug paraphernalia. one syringe containing liquid, digital scales and packaging material.
On Pyles they found a metal container with 9.3 grams of meth.
The child had access to all of the firearms and needles that were strung about the front of the vehicle, the officer said.
Hoefler said the three had been evicted from their home the previous day and were living in the vehicle.
