In a Tuesday press release, West Virginia Senators Shelley Moore Capito and Joe Manchin — both members of the Senate Appropriations Committee — announced a $132,152 grant for the Fairmont Morgantown Housing Authority.
The funding is provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and will be used for Mainstream Housing Choice Vouchers, which, FMHA Executive Director Christal Crouso explained, provide rental assistance to non-elderly people dealing with disabilities.
“We were so excited to learn we had been approved for this funding,” Crouso told The Dominion Post.
“We have a strong network of partners in the region that provide excellent support services, but oftentimes housing is one of the biggest challenges people face. These vouchers will make a big difference in securing affordable housing. We look forward to getting these vouchers distributed.”
In the press release, Capito said she was pleased to work with the FMHA as a member of Senate Appropriations to secure the funding.
“This is a great example of how the expertise we build here in Washington benefits West Virginians at the local level,” Capito said.
Manchin echoed those sentiments.
“As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I am proud that West Virginia is receiving this funding, and I will continue to fight to ensure that everyone has a roof over their head and a place to sleep.”
