Clay-Battelle ends season on high note, shuts out Hundred 51-0

HUNDRED, W.Va. — Clay-Battelle coach Ryan Wilson knew regardless of the outcome of Friday’s game, his team wouldn’t be in the Class A playoffs. And even though it hit him hard after the final handshake with Hundred coach D.J. Byrd, Wilson still wanted to highlight the passion and fight his team embodied in the 2019 season and the 51-0 shutout over the Hornets.

“If we could’ve picked up one more win along the way maybe it would be different,” Wilson said. “This team was battlers. The first eight games were nail-biters and our kids just battled. I couldn’t have asked for more from them and I’m still proud of them. We talked to the young guys about the offseason and we’re going to (grind for next year).”

The Cee-Bees (6-4) dominated Hundred (2-8) from the start, putting up 29 points in the first half behind four combined scores from Seth Casino and Carson Shriver as well as two successful 2-point conversions.

Shriver kicked off the first quarter with a 14-yard rush and ended the stanza with a 25-yard rushing score. Both 2-point conversions were good.

The second quarter was just as productive for C-B, notching 13 points off two passing scores by Casino — a 7-yard catch by Noah Sollars and a 2-yard toss to Drew Deletto.

After the half, C-B put up 22 more points to seal the already locked game while giving younger players some experience. One of those younger guys was freshman Mason Chisler who had the lone score in the fourth quarter on a 20-yard rush.

“It was a really good win (to send) the seniors out with,” Wilson said. “Defensively we shut out the last two games, and that makes the offseason more exciting for us.”

Senior Sean Hays ended his high school career with 58 yards on nine carries and one score. Hays also picked up 49 yards on two receptions.

Shriver, a freshman, will likely fill Hays’ shoes next year and picked up 84 yards and a score on six rushes. In the air, Casino was 6 of 7 for 51 yards and two touchdowns, while Levi Carrico was 2 of 2 for 49 yards and one score. Both quarterbacks are seniors.

Fellow senior Cadon Skavinsky added 30 yards on three receptions, and Sollars grabbed two targets for 19 yards.
