UHS’s Halloween concert
a spirited performance
Kudos to University High School, right here in Morgantown, for having an incredible high school orchestra as well as a great band. The orchestra has about 60 talented members ninth through 12th grade.
I do not know who decided to try having a Halloween (Oct. 28) concert, but it was a huge success. Typically the orchestra always performs in dress black and white. I noticed immediately that many performers were in costumes.
The tyrannosaurus rex was amusing as it was quite a large blow-up — a little ungainly and helpfully led by another student. I imagined a large male inside of it. I was surprised to see a young woman after the show appear inside who was rather petite.
Every single song performed was performed well, but one, titled “Remote Control” by Richard Meyer, was exceptionally executed by each musician and the remote control.
I noticed only 11 students were seniors which indicates growth for more delightful concerts in the future. I certainly would have been happy to listen to much more of every selection that was interrupted by the remote.
The love of playing and the skill of these young people was wonderful to see.
During my formative years, my uncle, Mario Trezza, was a violinist with the Philadelphia Symphony and my aunt, Ruth Rafferty, was the music librarian for the Philadelphia Symphony. They actually lived in the rehearsal hall at which I spent a lot of time — thrilled by all the orchestra instruments which I was not allowed to go near ever. But I loved to look at the few that might be left. I was often taken to concerts and developed a love for the music.

Veterans dinner, program
once again was great
I would like to extend thanks to the Rev. Terry Wilt and all the members of the Harvest House Ministry for the wonderful Veterans Program and Dinner which was held Saturday.
Each year seems to get better and better. It was good to see new veterans attending this year. I know it takes hours of preparation and those involved deserve a great round of thanks.
This year Heidi Ridenour came and sang and played the guitar. I heard many nice comments afterwards on her singing and selection of music. It was also so nice to see Tony Nieman was the guest speaker. He did a great job.
The members of the Jr. ROTC from Preston High School did an outstanding job in serving the meal. They were all very courteous and polite. It was nice to see them be involved. Some of these members will some day be our new military leaders.
The members who prepared the meal did an outstanding job. Thank you to West Virginia Caring for providing the door prizes.
I believe I can speak for all in attendance that everyone had a wonderful time and everyone appreciates the effort that goes into this event every year.
If you have not attended this event, I would encourage every veteran to attend one time. You can reconnect with fellow veterans and have a wonderful evening of fellowship. God bless America!

Trump should resign
to avoid further disgrace

Under President Trump America is headed for a train wreck and it’s picking up speed.
U.S. Attorney General William Barr recently traveled across the ocean on some kind of cock-eyed investigation of the investigators of any alleged Russian collusion in the 2016 election to help Trump win.
If he finds no collusion, but other crimes Trump and his cohorts committed, will he report it or cover it up for the president. After all, no one is above the law. Right?
Throughout history a time of reckoning comes to the just and unjust eventually. We are in those times. Many are going to wake up on the wrong side of history and history will not be kind to them.
And your worst enemy, Fox and Friends and lead opinionator Sean Hannity, is not going to help your legacy one little bit.
President Trump should use all his “art of the deal” skills to have all of the charges of wrongdoing past and present dismissed and then resign.
The president that was never meant to be is only bringing further disgrace to himself, his family and America.
