Jean V. Nels, 91, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully on Wednesday Nov. 6, 2019, at Mon Health Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 2, 1928, in Pursglove, a daughter of the late Gordon Ware and Bonnie Wilson Ware Spicer.
Jean was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She worked many years as a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service. In her spare time, Jean enjoyed spending countless hours playing Scrabble with her daughter-in-law, Donna Nels.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Donna Rae Nels, who Jean considered the daughter she never had; brother Robert “Bob” Wade and wife, Anne, of Florida; and grandchildren, Jason Nels and wife, Jenny and their daughter, Lila, of Reedsville, Jennifer Ibbeson and husband, Jeremy, and their children, Emily and Brandy, of Clarksburg. Jean is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Carol Spicer, of Florida, Glenda Spicer, of Ohio, Nellie Nels, of Westover; her dear nieces who would always check on Jean, Becky Meacham, Cindy Mansberger, Nicole Price; nephew, Frank Kuhn and wife, Barbara; and many more nieces and nephews; and a special cousin, Johna Seremetis, Jean’s Guardian Angel, and her husband, Nick and family.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Stanley Nels; a son, Randall R. Nels; stepfather, Furman Spicer; brothers, Ralph and Ray Spicer; sisters, Maxine Graft, Lois “Boots” Lee, Jonette Workman; and a special aunt and uncle, Neva and John Starkey.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and staff of Mon Health Medical Center, her friends Liz Conrad and Denise Smith for all of the care and support given to Jean.
Friends will be received at St. Mary Catholic Church from 11 a.m. Friday Nov. 8, until the Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Father John V. DiBacco Jr. as celebrant. Jean will be laid to rest, beside her husband, Stanley, at East Oak Grove Cemetery.
