Woman killed in accident on Listravia Avenue

Morgantown Police Chief Ed Preston said the accident that killed a city woman Tuesday afternoon on Listravia Avenue will remain under investigation today.

“There are a lot of ‘don’t knows’ right now,” the chief said.

Kayla Carder, 34, of Morgantown, was pronounced dead at the scene, despite efforts of Mon EMS paramedics to save her.

She was pinned under a 2000 International truck making a beer delivery to a bar on the street of tightly-packed houses and other businesses near W.Va. 7.

The woman was walking past the truck as it was slowly backing down the street for the delivery, Preston said.

Preston said the woman was apparently unseen by the driver.

The truck backed over Carder after she was struck, he said.

No citations were issued Tuesday afternoon, he said.

Preston also said he wouldn’t release the name of the driver or the company he works for until the investigation is complete.

Listravia was closed for about 45 minutes after the 1:21 p.m. accident.

Neighbors and others gathered in small groups while police and paramedics did their work at the scene.

Traffic was snarled for a time as parents of students attending nearby Trinity Christian School were showing up to pick up their children at the end of the school day.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is ask to contact the Morgantown Police Department at 304-284-7522.
