The 72nd Mountaineer Week is underway at West Virginia University.
Monday saw students and others try to see how many could fit into a Personal Rapid Transit car. The PRT Cram is a tradition of the weeklong event.
Today’s event feature is an Appalachian ax-throwing demonstration from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on the Mountainlair Plaza.
Contestants in the annual Beard-Growing Contest will find out who has grown the best beard at noon Wednesday in the Mountainlair Food Court.
Also Wednesday, there will be a West Virginia Mine Wars Museum at 2 p.m. in the WVU Mountainlair Commons. And, genealogist Margaret Kerr-Beckwith will talk from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Downtown Library, room 136.
On Thursday and Friday, PRT Parlor/Champion Pop-Up Parlor invites everyone to Woodburn Circle from 9 a.m.-6:30 p.m. to see a new line of vintage WVU apparel as a part of an interactive pop-up experience.
There will be an Instagram station featuring a Champion script backdrop and WVU-branded frames, tailgate-style games and a retail tent stocked with Champion gear.
Classic Cutz Barber Shop partnered with WVU and will be on site offering free barber cuts and beard trims/shape-ups inside an inflatable PRT car for students, faculty or staff who register in advance. Register at app.acuityscheduling.com.
WVU Press will host a Coffee and Conversation about the new book, “Mountaineers are Always Free” from 10-11 a.m. Friday in the Mountainlair Mountaineer Room.
Mountaineer Week wraps up at WVU-Texas Tech football game at noon Saturday at Milan Puskar Stadium. At halftime, Mr. and Ms. Mountaineer and Most Loyals will be honored.
