James Elmer “Sonny” Swearingen passed away Oct. 31, 2019, in Amherst, Ohio, at the age of 83.
He was the son of Anna (nee Torma) and Elmer.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Audrey.
He is survived by daughter, Teresa; grandchildren, Jamie, Jessica and Thomas; great-grandchildren, Kaden, Xander and Phoebe; many nieces and nephews; and best friend, Gerald.
James was a proud United States Marine and member of the Ohio Military Reserve. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed trains, hunting and fishing and was deeply in touch with nature. He often explored Killbuck Marsh near his home in Wooster, Ohio, where he would observe various wildlife and visit his favorite pond. He was a lifelong music lover and inspired all around him with his sometimes hidden gentle soul and strong constitution.
He will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, in Rittman, Ohio.
